First Steps Back

Posted: Friday, 18 September 2020 at 12.30pm

August and September have seen us take some big steps. We held a sold out, socially distanced Summer Art School and concurrently…

…a very successful, timed entry art exhibition showcasing local artists. The new look in our grounds saw it used as an exhibition space for the first time with Surrey Sculpture Society exhibiting over three weekends. Local actor Amanda Root then put on…

…a delightful ‘theatre in the round’ fundraising production of Playing Jane for two nights, which was rapturously received by the lucky 76-strong audience who saw it each night at socially distanced tables.

Now we know that we can successfully and safely hold classes we are running more this Autumn, alongside others online and also welcoming back two of our singing classes in the live, but socially distanced, flesh. The enthusiasm of all our customers was marked and illustrates the desire we all have to get on with our lives in safety.

We are still a long way from business as usual for the Landmark. Under current social distancing regulations, live performances will be difficult financially for us as our 329 seating capacity is reduced to only 76.

However we are determined to do whatever we can to provide a range of arts activities for people.

We have applied to Arts Council England for financial aid from the Government’s arts rescue package to fully support us through to next March. We expect a decision during the first week of October. We thought our application was strong, but we are in competition with every theatre, music venue, museum and gallery in England.

So we still need your help to keep the Landmark alive. If you are able to, then please…

Thank you
Martin Nicholds, Chairman of the Trustees

Coronavirus & The Landmark

Posted: Tuesday, 17 March 2020

In the light of the Government’s announcement yesterday, the Landmark has decided that we should play our part in fighting the spread of the virus by suspending our activities until further notice. We are seeking to re-arrange as many events and classes as we can for a later date and will publish updates on our website and via social media.

Our team will be contacting affected patrons as quickly as possible, but it will take us time to do so. Please bear with us.

The Landmark is an unsubsidised charity and this unprecedented situation will have a significant financial impact on us. We need your support now more than ever. If you are able to donate £5 please text LACL01 to 70970.

We look forward to welcoming you back at a later date. In the meantime, thank you for your support and understanding at this difficult time. We hope you and your loved ones stay healthy.
