The New Year got off to a wonderful start here at the Landmark Arts Centre when we took delivery of our long-awaited concert grand piano on January 2nd.
The majority of the funding to buy the piano came from public donations by local people plus the proceeds of a number of fund-raising events, including a concert by classical pianist and local resident, Joseph Tong.
The purchase was finally made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust.
…to everyone who made a donation.
The piano made its performance debut at the Landmark on Saturday January 6th at a concert given by the Thames Youth Orchestra.
Centre manager, Lesley Bossine, commented “It seemed entirely fitting to us that the first pianist to make use of our lovely piano was a young musician in the early stages of their performing career. We are overjoyed to finally realise our ambition and deeply grateful to everyone who supported our appeal to make it happen.”
The Landmark ran a short series of four Sunday afternoon Chamber music concerts in January and February where the piano took centre stage.
